I haven’t traveled to the South Shore area much, so I was excited for Laura & James’ wedding at Independence Harbor. From the photos I had seen online, it looked beautiful, and it was! In the summer there’s a lot of greenery, but not a lot of color unless a place is landscaped with a lot of flowers. If you know me, you’ll know that I love lots of color. The grounds of Independence Harbor are beautifully landscaped, full of color, and they have lots of great little spots all around for photos right on site. I never had the chance to do an engagement session with Laura & James, but they were very natural on camera, and that always makes my job a lot easier! They had a sweet ceremony, followed by a super fun reception. I can’t wait to shoot at Independence Harbor again soon!

Katelyn and Jeff were one of my first few new clients when I joined 617 Weddings. We had our initial consult over the phone when they booked, but they also requested an engagement session, which we had at the beautiful beach on Plum Island. It was my first time there! One great perk about this job is the travel and seeing lots of new places! I do enjoy engagement sessions since the couple and I get to know each other a bit, and they can get used to being in front of the camera prior to the big day. Aside from having great photos to use for all of your wedding things, that’s definitely the biggest upside to having one. It’s great to chat with a couple and get to know their story a bit. Katelyn & Jeff were high school sweethearts who waited until after college and getting their Masters Degrees to tie the knot. Needless to say, both families were very excited for the big day to finally arrive!
Anyway! Last September became this June very quickly and I was excited to have my first wedding at one of our preferred venues, Groveland Fairways in Groveland, MA. I’d heard a lot of great things about the venue, and Liz, the coordinator. It’s a quaint little venue with a function/dinner area, patio, indoor and outdoor ceremony space, and its beautifully landscaped outside with lots of little spots for great photos. What more can you ask for? Oh, and you cant forget the baby goat you can hear bleating from behind the outdoor ceremony area 🙂 We had an awesome day that couldn’t have gone more smoothly. It was slightly overcast all day, which is a photographers dream for lighting. They did a first look, and we were actually able to do all of their bridal party and most of the family pictures prior to the ceremony, which is a huge time saver, especially if you want to join your cocktail hour for a little while. We did a few more family and wedding party pictures after, then did their bridal pictures, and they were able to join the last half of cocktail hour. After that, the party started and they danced the night away!

Nancy & Joe came to me through a referral from a friend last summer for their wedding at The Tirell Room. I was thrilled when they wanted to do an engagement session, and after we had such an awesome day shooting down in Hull, MA at Nantasket Beach and Fort Revere, I knew their wedding would be just as fun. The day of the wedding I met Nancy at the Boston Marriott Quincy, where she was getting ready and listening to the best music ever! I love 80’s, 90’s and early 2000’s music and she had almost the exact same playlist that I do. On top of awesome music, she had lots of bling and accessories that I loved, a fun second dress to change into, and not one, not two, but THREE pairs of awesome shoes! A bride after my own heart 🙂 Needless to say I had a lot of fun doing the detail photos!
After she finished getting ready, we headed to the Tirrell Room, where Nancy & Joe shared their first look followed by their ceremony and reception. It was a wonderful summer night with family, friends, and great music!

My next event was Erica & Albie’s Stevens Estate Wedding. It was held over Memorial Day weekend in North Andover, MA. Erica & Albie were one of my first consults, and my very first booking when I joined the wonderful 617 Weddings! May seemed so far away when we booked last August, but it seemed to come so quickly 🙂 I love estate wedding venues, so I was excited to see the Steven’s Estate. The bridal suite was big, beautifully decorated, and full of gorgeous, natural light. We even had a few moments to shoot a few bridal photos before heading to the ceremony. Erica was stunning in her beaded lace dress and the bridesmaids were in different shades of my favorite color, purple, with accents of yellow.
The day was filled with lots of family and personal touches. The ceremony was officiated by Erica’s brother, and their wedding party was filled with family, such as Albie’s father as his best man, and other great friends by their side. It was a day filled with lots of love and emotion, and you could see how excited they were to be getting married, surrounded by family and friends. It was such a beautiful day and I hope to shoot at the Stevens Estate again soon!

Julia & Marlon’s beautiful wedding was held at the Spencer Peirce Little Farm in Newbury, MA. I’d never been there but they were so excited about the venue and I couldn’t wait to see it! It is a place they like to visit often, and Marlon even proposed to Julia there. We even did their first look photos at the spot where he proposed, next to the pig pen! Yes, there were live animals right out front by the ceremony space, 2 very large pigs, a horse, a donkey, and a herd of sheep. I made sure to visit with them when I had a minute, and even got to feed the donkey an apple! 🙂 If you’re looking for a beautiful, rustic venue, Spencer Peirce Little Farm is a great place to check out!
Their short, but sweet ceremony was held in front of the old farm house, and the lighting was absolutely perfect! For the reception, there was a large tent out in the back, and all of the tables were decorated with flower boxes and other beautiful rustic details. The wedding was coordinated by Tiffany Learned of Detailed Engagements, and she did a great job! It was a wonderful evening full of family, friends, and great moments 🙂

As soon as I met with Katie & Michael, I knew their engagement photos were going to be a good time. They are both so sweet with fun, outgoing personalities! They both live in the North End in Boston, so that is where they chose to have their engagement photos. Of course, with all of the snow and blizzards, we had to reschedule a couple of times, but in the end the timing worked out. Our session fell on the same day as the Patriot’s Superbowl Parade, and since everyone was busy at that, it meant no people walking around in the back of our pictures! I even had the help of our office assistant, Rosie for the day. We started at Christopher Columbus Park, walked through the North End, stopping at some of their favorite spots, including where Michael proposed at Battery Wharf, and finally made our way over to Paul Revere Park by the Zakim Bridge. It was also right before Valentine’s day, so we had some fun taking pictures with (and of course eating) some candy hearts! We lucked out with fairly nice weather as far as January goes, too! I can’t wait for their October 2015 Wedding at Brookstone Park in Derry, New Hampshire!
Janelle & Eric – Royal Sonesta Wedding – Cambridge, Massachusetts

I’ve been a little behind on blogging but finally, here are the photos from Janelle & Eric’s Royal Sonesta Wedding! I shot their engagement session in August of last year. They were my first client booking after I re-launched and revamped my business last fall. Janelle’s father is a long time friend of my father’s, and I’ve known him since I can remember. We had a great time shooting their engagement photos in Rockport, so I had been looking forward to their wedding day ever since.
There were a lot of great moments throughout the day, but one of my favorites was Janelle’s first look with her father, and dare I say, it was pretty adorable! You’ll see it in the photos below, so keep reading and scrolling! First looks are becoming popular with brides and grooms, but not everyone decides to do them. If you don’t do a first look with your spouse, you can definitely have one with your father. I did with mine, and it was an awesome moment! You just can’t let him see your dress before the wedding 🙂 There was also a lot of the “Janelle face,” and this is the first time I’ve ever seen the Best Man make a toast with an actual piece of toast!
Janelle wanted a big wedding, and a big wedding she got! It was one of the biggest I’ve shot to date, and it was a great time. I had an awesome second photographer by my side as well as my husband on video. The ceremony was at St. John’s the Evangelist in Cambridge, MA and the reception was at the Royal Sonesta in Cambridge, with the Boston skyline as a backdrop. It was beautiful! They also had a Beatles tribute band called Britishmania as part of their entertainment. That’s something I’ve never seen at a wedding before and the guests loved it. Keep scrolling to check out photos from their awesome wedding day!
Juliana & Jim – North End Engagement Photos

Juliana & Jim were referred to me by a good friend for their wedding photos. Referrals are awesome and I love them, so please keep sending them my way! All of the clients that have been referred to me so far have been wonderful, and I can’t wait to shoot their weddings.
Anyway, Juliana & Jim’s wedding isn’t until next October, but they are having an engagement party this year to celebrate with friends and family, so they chose to do an engagement session as part of the celebration. They wanted something different for their photo location so I suggested shooting in Boston. After some brainstorming, we decided on Boston’s North End.
We arrived on a Friday evening and the weather couldn’t have been more perfect. It was a warm, breezy day with just the right amount of sun and clouds. We started off at Copp’s Hill Terrace, and eventually made our way through the North End to the waterfront. I had a great assistant, Dino Rowan Photo, who graciously dragged my granny cart full of equipment and took some behind the scenes photos. Afterwards, Juliana, Jim & I shared a pizza dinner. Not a bad way to end an awesome session. And ladies, I highly suggest getting your makeup done before a session if you can. Juliana comes from a family of cosmetologists and her makeup was flawless! It really shows in the photos too. Of course they are a gorgeous couple and I love all of their photos!
His last name is Fiore, so we had to stop here! I tried to get a photo of them under the sign but sadly, the tree growth was too much, so we just did a few shots in front instead 🙂
And thanks again to Dino Rowan Photo for all of the help! Here’s a pic of me in action 🙂 Check out my awesome leather camera harness from Holdfast Gear. They have great camera accessories for us photographers who are always on the move. It’s great to get home from a wedding or photo shoot and not be sore!
Wedding Photography Consultations – Why they are Important
One part of my client services are wedding photography consultations. In this digital age of e-mails and text messages, you can collect a lot of information very quickly and go about your day. You cannot, however, get to know someone and their personality through your computer screen or phone. Meeting with the photographer, DJ, and officiant, to name a few, will help you select the people that mesh with your personalities as a couple and fit with your wedding day visions. On your search for a photographer, you will look at many websites and images trying to decide on who to hire. Once you find a photographer with the style you are looking for, you will want to meet with them to see if they are a good fit for you. Your first choice might not be the perfect fit, so don’t give up hope! Spend the time to meet with vendors until you find the ones that fit you best. It will be worth it when you look back at your photos and all of the wonderful memories of your special day.
When I am contacted by you as a prospective client, I will gladly answer any questions you may have asked in your initial e-mail, but I also ask right away about setting up a meeting at a time that is convenient for you and your fiancé. I prefer to sit face to face with both of you (if possible) so we can get to know each other while we go over the details of your wedding day. I am happy to meet wherever you’d like, whether it’s in your home, a local coffee shop, or restaurant. As long as it’s somewhere quiet where we can chat and not have to talk loudly to each other, it’s all up to you and what will make you most comfortable. Once we sit down, I start by collecting the general details of your day such as times, venues, wedding style and colors, wedding party, and family members. If you have a basic timeline set up already, we’ll go over that too so I can make recommendations on when to fit in formals. I use the timeline to come up with the best times to fit in all of the different formal photographs, so your day flows smoothly and you can enjoy it as much as possible. If you’re still early in your planning, don’t worry! No pressure, you can always update me later. I also ask what style of photos you are looking for or most interested in. I’ve had couples most interested in wedding details, some more interested in candids instead of posed bridal formals, and some who like an even mix of everything. It’s your day, and the photos should be what you want to see when you look at them years from now. Consultations usually last an hour at most, so we don’t take up much of your time. I also do a follow up meeting a few weeks ahead of the wedding so I can gather your final timeline and any details and changes you may have made.
I’ve only had one couple that I didn’t consult with. They booked me only a few weeks before their wedding and we really didn’t have a time to meet because of our schedules. While they were still very happy with their photos, I had a harder time trying to come up with ideas on the fly. I was also unable to do site visits prior to the wedding day, something I do with venues I’ve never shot in before. I’ll be writing another post about those later! When I already have your information ahead of time, I take your feedback and ideas from our meeting to come up with ideas prior to your wedding day, and will document them in your electronic file in an app on my computer (which syncs to my phone and other devices so I always have it!). I am much more prepared and confident, which is what you deserve in your photographer!
Everyone has a different style and yes, different price points when it comes to weddings, or any special event. While staying within your budget is a big factor in your wedding planning, connecting and clicking with your photographer is just as important if not more. You want to trust and feel comfortable with the person or people you choose to document your big day. The photos and video (if you choose to have it) will be one of few tangible things left after the day is over. Your photos will be hanging on yours and your family’s walls forever. No matter what point you’re at in your planning when you look for a photographer, always set up a wedding photography consultation. I, along with most other photographers offer consultations at no charge. If we meet and you don’t feel that we are the perfect match, that’s perfectly okay and I will not be offended if you choose another photographer. All you have to do is politely follow up with an e-mail or phone call and let me know so I can open your wedding date back up to other clients. It’s as simple as that!
Just as every couple’s wedding style is unique, so is every photographer’s style of photos. Choose the one that fits you best, and you will have the most beautiful and perfectly preserved moments from your wedding day to look back on and enjoy for years to come!
