Jaime & Alex’s wedding at On the Marsh in Kennebunk, Maine was my last full wedding of the year. It was also the only rainy one! It was in November, so I guess I lucked out for the most part! We started with getting ready at the King’s Port Inn just down the street. They decided to do a first look, but since it was pouring out and cold, we had to do it in the lobby area. Not the most beautiful spot, but it worked! I’m really beginning to love first looks. Aside from being a major time saver on the wedding day, the groom’s reaction to his bride is always so genuine and emotional. I just love it!
They had a lot of personal touches to their day that I really loved. Her dress was a gorgeous champagne color, and she splurged on gorgeous crystal covered Betsey Johnson shoes. They are Blue by Betsey Johnson, a line of gorgeous weddings shoes. I wish I’d known about them when I got married! They also had mad-libs instead of a guestbook, and wedding pies instead of a wedding cake. I had blueberry, and it was awesome! They decided to forego a DJ (which we don’t usually recommend) but they had someone pre-mix their music for the night, and it was done really well. It was also a lot of 90’s and boy band songs, which is my guilty pleasure when it comes to music!
Because of the rain, we weren’t really able to get many bridal portraits. We did the traditional family and wedding party photos in the dinner space, and of course the usual candid reception photos. Luckily for me, Jaime and Alex were happy to come outside with me for a few minutes to get a couple of shots I had been wanting to try. My husband had been asking me for months to do a “rainy umbrella shot”. It never rained so I wasn’t able to do it. This is the only reason I was ok with a little rain. I finally got the shot and it came out great! I’m always thrilled when couples are open to photo ideas and don’t mind a little yucky weather.
On the Marsh is a great venue, and I hope to shoot there again sometime in the summer when they can do outdoor ceremonies!
